Billet Steel Camshafts & Valvetrain
Raylar has developed 10 billet steel hydraulic roller camshaft profiles for the 496-8.1 engine after extensive dynamometer testing on various combinations of our aluminum CNC cylinder heads, intake manifolds, fuel settings and exhaust systems. Our camshafts feature special lifts, durations and ramp rates that take advantage of the lightened valve train of our aluminum "Big Power" CNC cylinder head.
All of our billet steel camshafts are designed to idle at or near stock idle RPMs with broad torque curves for strong power delivery under the curve - where you use it most. All of our billet steel camshafts are designed and manufactured in the USA with the finest billets and ground on state-of-the-art CNC cam grinding machines. Raylar's full-roller billet steel camshaft kit for iron cylinder heads reuses stock head studs and fits under the stock valve covers. Includes your choice of four stock piston safe billet steel camshafts and 1.70 ratio stainless steel roller rockers.

Raylar's high strength stainless steel 1.70 ratio roller rocker kit. Fits under stock valve covers! These roller rockers reduce valve train friction and add 18 horsepower throughout power band. Comes with application specific adjustment nuts.

Heads & Intake Make The Difference
Unlike the LSX series of engines, a cam swap alone won't provide big horsepower figures. The 8.1L cylinder heads and intake manifold were not designed to produce power past 4300rpm, seriously limiting the output of these engines - especially when adding extra camshaft duration. To make the 8.1L an LS2 on steroids, replacing the entire top end is a must.
Camshafts for Stock Pistons
These billet steel cams are designed to deliver maximum power while still increasing the torque levels over the widest possible range.
The BP-201 camshaft is designed to make maximum torque for truck pulling competitions or very heavy towing applications over 8000lbs.
The BP-202 camshaft sometimes called the "ZZ496" because of its similarity to the "ZZ502" but with GEN7 firing order, is designed for truck and workhorse RV use with emissions compliance, stock-like idle, fuel economy and peak towing power of primary importance.
Our BP-203 camshaft is designed to provide good horsepower and torque across the entire power band. Expect exceptional power everywhere with our intake manifold and cylinder head combination while still providing adequate piston to valve clearance in engines equipped with factory stock pistons.
High Lift Camshafts
Our high lift series of billet steel camshafts require the use of our flycut forged pistons for added piston to valve clearance.
Our BP-205 camshaft is a high lift version of our BP-203 camshaft allowing you to make even more horsepower and torque across the entire power band with our aluminum cylinder heads, intake manifold and dished pistons.
Our BP-206 camshaft was patterned to make maximum horsepower from the 496cid engine with our cylinder heads, intake manifold and dished pistons. In aftermarket block applications, its an excellent choice for daily driveable power.
The BP-213 is our race camshaft for extreme performance in all-out 496 and 511 combinations. It provides great midrange and top end power in 535-600+ cubic inch engines with aluminum cylinder heads, intake manifold and dished pistons.
We offer two different grinds of our popular supercharger billet steel camshafts.
The BP-111-S is designed for stock pistons and rotating assemblies while the BP-207-S which is a high lift version for our flycut forged pistons and forged I-beam connecting rods. Both are designed to maximize your engine’s power in supercharged applications.
Iron Cylinder Head Cam Swap Kit
Your stock valve springs will need to be replaced to run the BP-203 camshaft. Our iron head camshaft swap kit reuses stock head studs and fits under the stock valve covers. Includes your choice of four stock piston safe billet steel camshafts and 1.70 ratio stainless steel roller rockers. This kit is also a good option for those looking to improve the capabilities of the Dart iron cylinder head.
